The tooth fairy debacle

So, Chloe lost another tooth yesterday. She was very excited because it's been loose for a couple of months. I gave her a little jewelry box to put it in and she put it under her High School Musical pillow. Night, night, sleep tight, we all went to bed.... It's early morning. My alarm has not gone off yet. I hear Chloe freaking out... something about the tooth fairy. OH CRAP! I am a horrible mother!!!

She's freaking out because she can't find the jewelry box. It's not under her pillow. I run to her room. DISTRACT! DISTRACT! I said, "Maybe dad took it downstairs. Quick! Go look!" I rummage through her bed. It doesn't help that Cassie is now standing behind me saying, "Did the tooth fairy come?!?!?" DISTRACT! DISTRACT!

A-HA! I found the box. Cassie starts yelling, "MOM FOUND IT! MOM FOUND IT!" Chloe is now behind me. I run to the bedroom and dump the tooth, I fly down the stairs with both kids running after me. I turn the corner, quick, to the stash of change....Oh, please let some quarters be in there! I grab a handful of change, stick it in the box, and run back towards the kids who are now turning the corner at the bottom of the steps.

Chloe is yelling "WHAT DID SHE GIVE ME?!?!?" I taunt and tease her and say, "It's mine, it's mine!" Why else would I run away with the tooth fairy's money? I shake the box and then give it to her. "Yeah! I got quarters!" I guess it's a good thing we have the bucket 'o change handy!

Disaster diverted...at least for today.

Back to School Supplies

First of all, you have to be kidding that they are already in the stores in JULY! However, since they were so picked over last year, I decided to make my purchases now.

There are already a bunch of crazy mom's pushing and shoving their carts so they block the folder section while their child picks through EVERY SINGLE CASE. I have my list in hand. I first shop Wal-Mart for the cheap goods. I get the basics. Now, I do buy a second set of everything in case someone can't afford the supplies or someone runs out half way through the year. However, where are all the things I need?!?! The stocker boy assured me that this is what they've got. No mystery products showing up next week. Apparently Wal-Mart could care less what's on the local schools' list.

I next go to Target. I almost finish my list. I still need 2 red, blue, and black wide non-perferated single subject spiral notebooks. The perferated kinds are only .10 each. I make my way out of the crazy Back-To-School section and go into the regular stationary section....ooooo, what do I see? Non-perferated spiral notebooks. Wait, these are college rule; my paper says wide rule. I dig. I find one! YES! It's red! I dig through the college rule stack just in case. SCORE! I find two black ones that are wide! Of course, they are like 8 times the cost. Whatever....

I then trek to Staples, then Office Depot. Oh, and in between there I had to stop for gas. I realize I must go to another Target (before other savvy moms figure out where the non-perferated spiral notebooks are hidden). I drive down the road to another Target. Woo-hoo, who's the greatest mom?!?!? Yes, that's right, ME! I find another red, and two blues!!! Now, for the "extra set" that I buy to be nice? Well, those kids got the .10 perferated ones. Sorry if your pages fall out.

One other frustration.... the stupid companies only make reinforced notebook paper in college rule. Hello, the reason for the reinforced paper is so that my when my third grader throws her bookbag across the bus each day all of her pages don't fall out! I think a college kid can keep their notebook together!!!

Anyway, my kids now have their back-to-school supplies bought, labeled, and boxed ready to go. Each of their teachers have their own extra/spare box of supplies. And I am totally exhausted. I say raise my taxes and have the freakin' supplies ready when my kid gets to school!

New car

As many of you read, my very first blog entry was about Big Red. Yes, such fond memories. Well, Big Red is in the shop and it's not looking good. We're still going to try to get her fixed, but I think we're going to retire her to hauling stuff from Lowes and Walmart.

Needless to say, we bought a 2007 Chevy Uplander last night. The kids seem to like it (mostly because they have separate seats now!). I'm just happy that I have a clicker again. I think the sales guy thought I was crazy when I oo'd and ah'd over the clicker. I've got almost 9 years without one!

Chloe's birthday

Yesterday Chloe turned 8 (going on 18!). She's been asking for stripes in her hair for nearly a year and my hair place suggested extensions instead of actually coloring her hair. They put them sort of underneath her hair, so we can pull them forward or tuck them under.

Better & better

I'm figuring my recooperation based on the number of trips to Walmart. Yesterday I made two trips, one alone and one with a kid.... whoa, I must be feeling better!

The kids are doing fine in summer school. Of course, Chloe hates it and Cassie thinks it's fun. They go to Tae Kwon Do afterwards and they come home exhausted! (YES!)
