Training Is FULL

I sent out a notice that I had a few slots left for training next week and that was it... the flood doors opened.  Now, I had sent the registration form out with an email over a month ago (even with a red urgency flag, which I never do!).  I got in registration forms, but not overwhelming.  Just a decent response.  I sent out a reminder.  That got in a few more...

But then I sent out a notice that I had a few slots left.  EVERYONE started to call the office, and bring over forms.  I immediately sent out another email stating that Monday and Tuesday classes were FULL.

At that point, my phone rang even more!  Is that begging I hear?  Seriously, why didn't you fill it out when I sent the first two emails????  I've even had a head of department give me a sob story about how he delegated this responsibility to someone who didn't do it (he apparently didn't do the Four F's) and he wanted his staff to have training NOW.

I told everyone that this is just the first wave of training and that I'm hiring a Training Officer and we'll plan more. In the meantime, go ahead and submit their registration forms.  Even if they don't get in this first class, I have room in the other secretarial and clerical staff courses (for now anyway).

The smell in my office has dissipated quite a bit (but still a tinge of noxious fumes lingering).  It's okay for training, but my training room just won't hold this amount of people comfortably.  Plus, my floor is just a wreck and, although they tell me they're going to fix it this week, I'm just not holding my breath.  It's easier to try to book another room (although it's the first day of classes).  We'll see, but I requested one of the halls we use for special events.

On the positive side, my boss called to (1) check on my office floor, (2) suggested I book another room for training (oops, did I need permission to do that???) , and (3) tell me that he's approved my check requests except the one for the big ass photocopy machine/printer/fax which he has to give to the VC since it's over his limit.  Yipee!  I'm going to get some equipment!

Funny, though, as my boss asked me, "You don't have a copy machine?"  I said no.  I reiterated (again) that I have no copy machine, no fax machine, no laptop, no projector... You know, the basics of trying to run a department????  Well, it seems that they're on their way.... albeit a year and a half after my first request (and God knows how many in between...)  What can I say, I'm just grateful the VC allocated money to the new training department, otherwise, I'd still be SOL.  (INSERT SMILE!)  I'm getting office equipment!
