Yummo.

I love salads. Yummy, delicious, something sweet, something tangy salad. Certainly not the kind my mom used to make (no offense, mom) with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, carrots and French dressing… oh, and croutons for special occasions…

Nah… I miss Panera seasonal salads… walnuts and apples in the winter, or poppy seeds and strawberries in the summer…. And good lettuce. I like my salads to have tasty lettuce, sometimes even those kinds that verge on being weeds.

Believe it or not, I have a hard time getting stuff to make yummy salads here. Sometimes you can find different types of lettuce or bok choy at the market, but I only go on Saturdays…. Occasionally they make it to the grocery stores, but it just depends. Sometimes they’re there, and wilted beyond recognition. Yes, we get fresh fruits and veggies, but eat them quick!

And yummy ingredients for a salad? Oh, I found imported spinach a couple weeks ago. I filled a small bag for K9. Let’s just say my spinach salad was mostly bok choy with some spinach added in. I also love nuts on my salad…mmmm… toasted crunchy bits of goodness on top! My favorites? Pine nuts, almonds, and cashews…. Mostly readily available… for a price…. And it’s a price I am willing to pay when I am salad desperate…. Toast them up to perfection…

I popped into Food Mart yesterday and the avocados were perfectly ripe…. Yummo. And what? Red grapes? (Yes, I did pay over k60/kg, but FRESH RED GRAPES!!). And some raggy-leaf lettuce that looked good?? Two different kinds?!?  What!  And local?  (Thankfully, something was cheap!)  I got home and mixed up some salad dressing… tangy, sweet, yet still light and so tasty….

Today’s lunch*…. A salad. A yummy, delicious, fabulous salad. Total food orgasm.
